Applied R&D Filtration Manager, PhD (M/F) Company: Bekaert NV, Zwevegem, Belgium Department: Fiber Technologies Department Reporting to/hierarchy: Corporate Technology Manager Function details: This person will use his/her filtration expertise for the improvement of metal fiber based filter products and processes in close collaboration with the Product Market Managers and Technology Managers of the Business Units. He/she will combine his/her filtration expertise with the Bekaert expertises in other domains (e.g. coatings) to come to a Unique Selling Proposition for the final product. He/she will act as the scientific coordinator between the customer and the Research & Development Department for the development of new filters as well as new filter materials. He/she will accompany visits to existing and prospective customers to provide technical support and presentations. He/she will take the necessary actions for the introduction of new applications for Bekaert liquid and gas filters. Expectations for this role include: Demonstrate and maintain up-to-date expertise in filtration technologies and build effective relationships with partners inside and outside Bekaert to develop new product generations and applications. Have in depth knowledge of both liquid and gaseous systems, to be able to design and operate test equipment. Preferably have knowledge to make computer simulations including fluid dynamics and separation principles. Work independently as well as in a team in a result oriented and innovative environment. Broad interest in various filtration applications. Education and qualifications: PhD or equivalent by experience in either (bio-) chemical or mechanical engineering, in physical chemistry or material sciences. A (first) professional experience in an applied research and development position in the domain of filtration technologies, preferably with an established network in this field. Scientific publications about filter applications are a plus. Familiar with MS Office Programs. Personality and mentality: Have a dynamic personality and contribute to effective teamwork. Have strong skills in project management. Very good interpersonal and communication skills (internal and external contacts). Innovative and creative mind with vision to develop new applications. Result driven and be able to make the link between other (existing) applications. Integer, honest, loyal and open minded for a multicultural environment. High intellectual potential with management capabilities. Languages: Fluent in English (oral and in writing). Knowledge of German is a plus. Willingness to learn the local language (Dutch). Mobility/travel: 10 to 20 % (global) traveling (customers, scientific seminars, etc...) Job specificities: New function. Permanent employment, full time. Location: Deerlijk (near Kortrijk), Belgium.
