Infrastructure Engineering Specialist, Canada, by Research In Motion (RIM/BlackBerry)
Job description:
An Infrastructure Engineering Specialist in the BIS-Email team will assist with the design, implementation, maintenance, deployment planning, and on-going capacity planning of the BlackBerry Internet-Based Email Services. This individual will also investigate new and/or different technologies to improve the overall system infrastructure.
As a member of the team, the successful candidate interfaces significantly with the following groups:
Software Development
Software Verification and Validation (QA)
Networking
Operations
Database
Project Management groups
As well as with the other BlackBerry Engineering teams
As one of these role requirements, he/she should be prepared to be alternating with the rest of the team members in an after-hour support on-call rotation to react as 4th tier of support for Production issues that may require engineering attention.
Skills:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Strong UNIX-like administration experience (Linux, Solaris, xBSD, etc)
Experience with Software Development life cycle and working with development teams as well as QA teams
Must be able to work well within a team environment (local and remote members), and interface well with other teams
Strong scripting skills and experience in automating processes (shell, sed, awk, perl, ruby, etc)
Understanding of TCP/IP networks, and tools (routing, VLANs, firewalls, name services, tunneling, etc)
Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocol suite, specifically mail and inter-system communications (SMTP, IMAP, POP3, SSH/telnet, http, xml/soap, etc)
Experience in network storage solutions (NAS, SAN, ISCSI -- storage systems like NetApp, etc)
Experience designing and deploying scalable and/or fault tolerant architectures
Basic Project Management skills (agile/scrum methodologies appreciated)
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
RDBMS database administration (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc)
MTA administration (sendmail, postfix, qmail, etc)
Web server administration (apache, tomcat)
Familiarity with software development processes and tools (java, c++, etc)
LDAP administration
