POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently looking for security minded individuals to support RIM's comprehensive efforts to respond to emergent cyber-threats or incidents involving BlackBerry. The successful candidate will work in a fast paced, highly dynamic and challenging environment. The candidate will work with various teams across the organization to support vulnerability mitigation efforts from identification of potential issues to analysis, mitigation and related communications.
The ideal candidate will utilize their experience in building and leveraging relationships in a large complex ecosystem and at solving problems at the intersection of technology and people.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
• Act as an organizational focal point for product security response efforts
• Coordinate response activities, driving timely and appropriate resolution of complex security concerns
• Assist issue triage; quantitatively evaluate and contextualize risk
• Track and report on activities and status to senior management and other stakeholders
• Expand existing measurements and data set analysis to help focus activities
• Extract/extrapolate emergent threats (particularly regional ones) from Internet and private sources, mapping them onto BlackBerry's technical footprint
• Proactively cultivate strong working relationships across the organization and industry to ensure effective collaboration on resolving complex, time critical and customer impacting security defects
• Continually drive improvement of processes for identifying and managing security issues through lessons learned sessions and other means
Skills:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Understanding of common classes of security vulnerabilities, how they manifest in code and attack/defense methodologies
• Experience in driving the resolution of product security vulnerabilities, in conjunction with a variety of stakeholders under compressed timelines
• Ability to cultivate productive relationships with external security researchers as well as public and private response communities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Cool under pressure, objective and diplomatic
• Exceptional organizational and reporting skills
• Effective at managing process and delivery across an organization in rapidly evolving, high pressure situations
• Demonstrated ability to quickly and productively resolve conflict and rally potentially disparate interests to a common goal
• Holds a Bachelors degree, Masters degree or equivalent experience in a computer science/engineering or security related field
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
• Knowledge of BlackBerry products and services
• Professional project management experience/designation
• Fluency in SQL and data analysis experience
• Ability to read and understand C, C++ and/or Java code a plus
• Knowledge of application security configuration and best practices
• Experience in creating customer facing communications
NOTE: Preference will be given to those applicants with professional experience in product security response, particularly in a project / program management capacity.
